Travel in the Euregio Maas-Rhein

The Euregio Maas-Rhein consists of five regions in three countries: In Germany, the Aachen region (Aachen city, Aachen district, and the districts of Düren, Heinsberg and Euskirchen); in the Netherlands, the southern portion of the South Limburg province; and in Belgium, the provinces of Limburg and Lüttich (Liège), including Belgium's German-speaking community.

Travelling within the different regions

If you are travelling within the province of Limburg or Lüttich (Liège) in Belgium or within the province of Limburg in the Netherlands, then have to apply the tarif fares of the variousTransport companies. Valid in the Euskirchen district is the VRS-Tarif, and in the rest of the Regio Aachen of the Euregio Maas-Rhein you should apply the network fares of the AVV.

Trips from the AVV to the Netherlands and Belgium

The AVV-Tarif fares apply to cross-border AVV bus lines 24 to Kelmis (B), 25 and 33 to Vaals (NL), 34 to Kerkrade (NL), 497 to Ubach via Worms (NL) and the 436 to Sittard (NL). On the number 14 line to Eupen (B) the AVV-Tarif fare only applies on the German section as far as the bus stop Köpfchen Grenze. The cross-border Dutch bus lines 23 Übach-Palenberg – Eygelshoven, 30 Herzogenrath – Kerkrade and 50 Aachen – Maastricht are not AVV lines. AVV-Tarif fares do not apply here.

Übergangstarife (crossborder fares) make life far easier—especially for commuters—for travel to Heerlen (NL) and Lüttich / Liège (B).

Übergangstarif Heerlen

This crossborder fare applies if you are leaving the AVV network area with the bus number 44 or if you cross the border with the euregiobahn to Spekholzerheide (Kerkrade West) or Heerlen. [more]
